Editing

Editing generally occurs in four steps:

Developmental Editing, often known as a Content Review, examines all facets of the story, including the plot, conflict/resolution, point of view, setting, character, etc., as well as elements of structure and style.  This review includes a written report along with specific comments included in the manuscript.  Developmental Editing is generally for an entire manuscript and is a strong start to drive the process to publication.

Content Editing is more hands-on and collaborative, focusing on similar fundamentals to strengthen the plot while refining structure and style.  This works for writers still in process of revision, as well as for those revising after a content review.

Copyediting occurs once the manuscript is complete and the author is happy with the results.  Copyediting refines the writing with a keen eye to stylistic issues, grammar, and punctuation.

Proofreading is the final polish of the copyedited manuscript for fine points only, preparing the book for publication.

Editing is completed using Track Changes and Add Comments within MS Word documents, so the writer can review all changes and work from coaching notes.

Coaching calls and emails are also available for questions and brainstorming.

As part of your editing and revision process, a focus group can be organized and facilitated for evaluation of your writing, assisting in both approach to and analysis of information gathered after the meeting.

Developmental Editing is charged on a per-word basis.  Content editing, Copyediting, and Proofreading is charged on an hourly basis, and fees align with those listed under the writing project's genre:
